Atlas Shrugged

I finally finished this damn book. It took me like 3 months to read the thing. Somebody recommended this to me a long time ago and I was desperate for something to read so I got this. But it turned out to be a pretty good story.

It takes place in the near future of 1957 and it follows the struggles of Dagny Taggart, the operations manager at Taggart Transcontinental, as she tried to keep her company afloat while her brother, the president, runs the company into the ground. Meanwhile, all the good workers and induatrialists are mysteriously disappearing and a new government is starting to take over the country and... well... alot more stuff happens but I don't feel like describing it all.

Anyway, the book has a pretty good pace and manages to keep you interested, though it does get a little long winded at times. Mainly because Ayn Rand is the founder of the Objectivism movement and she uses this book as a platform to preach it and at the end of the book when things are coming to a climax she makes you sit through fifty pages of her Objectivism spiel before she continues with the story....That BITCH!!!

But it's still a good book, I would recommend it to anyone interested.

Now I can start on my next book that I've been anxiously wanting to start.

I've never heard of him either, it was one of those "if you like this guy, you'll like...." on Amazon.com. I read a couple pages in the bookstore and it seemed pretty good, but we'll see.

Musica Latina

I found a spanish station on the radio that plays hip-hop and other stuff earlier this week. I have no idea what they're saying, but some of those songs are pretty good. So today I ventured into the Musica Latina section of Best Buy and purchased my first spanish CD. Hmmm... is this a new chapter in The Dutch Story or just another passing fad?

Anyway, I bought this group called Daddy Yankee. Their big hit is a song called "Gasolina". Apparently it's about gasoline and they want it because they keep saying "A ella le gusta la gasolina (dame mas gasolina)" She likes gasoline (give me more gasoline) ... I think that's what it means..... I don't know, but it's a pretty catchy song.

Here he is looking all gangsta and shit.

Anyway, the rest of the cd is pretty good. My only complaint is that they use the same drum beat for every song. In fact, every song on that radio station has that same beat.

Anyway, it's the weekend so I'm going to go get some beer and tacos.... and some Rolaids

Pointless Stuff

I found this on my door this morning. It's a letter from the apartment complex saying that an assault has occured in the apartment complex. This is the fourth or fifth letter I've gotten since I moved in. I think i'm going to make this the I HATE MY APARTMENT blog.. what do you think?

Anyway, the big news around San Antonio today is there's a cold front coming in today. WOW!! Exciting, huh? Well everyone else seemed to think so, that's all I heard about today, " Isn't that wild? A cold front in the middle of summer!" and " God couldn't send us any rain so he gave us a cold front instead!" and so on...

So as the sun is baking my sweat soaked back through my shirt, I ask the guy next to me, " I thought there was a cold front coming in?" and he says " What do you mean? This is it!!" and laughed.

...... I hate Texas......

My pool

I don't know if you can see it, but that water in the pool is DARK GREEN!!! And they still have it open. I took this picture this morning and so far nobody has been in there. Yesterday there was a whole family swimming in that shit. This apartment complex is going down the tubes.

Drunk rant #1

Ok, I hate this guy Wes Anderson. He made those movies Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I couldn't figure out why I didn't like them before, but with The Life Aquatic I think I've finally figured it out.

His movies are always filled with this bland wit and weird visual style (which I love), and he writes these off the wall plots that somehow pull you in. But, right after the weird climax of each movie, he wusses out and gives everyone a happy ending. I HATE THAT!!!

Psychoanalyze that any way you want.

The Fifth Column

The Fifth Column

This guy is pretty funny

My Toe

I had an ingrown toenail removed today. Loads of fun. Everyone told me it would hurt like hell, but it really wasn't that bad. The most painful part was the 300 bucks they charged!!! And that's with insurance!

What's that you say? You wanna see a picture? Well, ok, if you insist...

If you're wondering what those black spots on the carpet are... It's waterproofing material that's flaked off my hands and work clothes.

Friday night Chris (my brother) invited to go to Blanco river with him and his family on Saturday. I wasn't too sure about going since the forecast for San Antonio was thunderstorms all day. ButChris, always the optimist, was confident that the weather would be better in Blanco. So on Saturday I got up, looked out the window and saw it was raining and figured he would call it off. But no.. he said it was all south of Blanco bla bla bla.. and came over. Well guess what...He was right!! As soon as we left San Antonio, the rain stopped and the sky cleared up.

Blanco river is a pretty nice place. We got a nice spot right next to the dam where everyone swims. There's a little box on the lower side of the dam that's shallow enough for kids and a deep end on the high side of the dam for everyone else. I hadn't been swimming in a looong time and it was pretty fun. We swam most of the day, had a bbq, and swam some more. At least until the church group came.

Yea you heard me right a church group. They came by with their acoustic guitars and hymns and started baptising people right in the middle of the kiddie pool. One lady, after being baptised, went into convulsions and another started crying. I felt like I was watching one of those televangelists on TV.

We left after soon after that.

Surprise in the mail... continued

Ok, I know you all have been anxiously waiting to see the Surprise gift so I won't keep you waiting...

That's right... MORE TAMPONS!!! But only I will know...

I'll admit, it's a pretty nifty case and it comes with a little pamphlet about Toxic Shock Syndrome... who would've thought a little piece of cotton could be so dangerous?

Obvioulsy it's alot smaller than the other ones, but it ingeniously extends at the base for... um... application. Wow, i'm learning a lot about feminine hygene.....

And check this out!!

Another coupon for $1 off my next purchase. What a great deal.

That's it for the package. It's been a very educational experience and it made me glad that I'm a man and don't have to deal with this shit.

Surprise in the mail

So I go to check my mail yesterday and to my surprise, there's a little piece of paper saying I have a package in the leasing office. The first thing that pops in my mind is "TOYOTA!!!!!" (cause I applied there) but instead I get handed this.

Talk about awkward

The free stuff I requested???

So instead of throwing it out I decided to show it off to all you folks out there in the style of my favorite blog sixthseal.com ( http://www.sixthseal.com).

The first thing in there is this box with this lovely picture.Embarrassing moment #3... hmmm... i'd hate to see #1 and #2

The back of the box is a bunch of stuff I never bothered to read, but I don't want to keep you guys in suspense any longer, lets open the box!!!

To my surprise.. the box folds out. It says "Tampax Pearl helps prevent leaks from being #4"... how witty!!
The whole package smells like a flowery garden and inside there's three tampons and some pretty graphic instructions. On the plus side, I get to save $1 on any size Tampax Pearl, but it expires on 8-31-05 so I'd better hurry.

But wait there's more!!!

What could this be?

Stay tuned dear readers...
